Paris enjoyed a little getaway to Brittany. Defeating Rennes (0-4), Paris accesses the Round of 16 of the 100th edition of the French Cup (Coupe de France).
We witness a quiet first-five-minute before seeing Aurier’s cross ending nowhere. Rennes’ first attempt comes at the 8th minute after Motta loses the ball when Sio tries from far off target. Then Maxwell crosses to Lucas whose header is also off target despite being at the right spot.
The game remains kind of boring until Motta’s perfect high trough ball finds Draxler who controls with a flick-on and wonderfully lobs the goalkeeper (0-1; 27th minute). Draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaxxx!!! PSG strengthens its game and could have doubled the score when Ben Arfa rushes, passes to Lucas who shoots in a tight angle missing the target while Draxler was alone at the 1st post.
Then at the 38th minute, cool play between Draxxx who passes to Ben’Arf whose cross misses Motta but not Lucas at the 2nd post. (0-2; 38th minute).
Rennes is already giving up and suffers under Paris’ attacks: 43rd Ben Arfa saved by Costil, and 44th Costil again saving in front of Lucas. A first half perfectly controlled by PSG with a great goal by Draxler.
The same teams come back for the second half and we expect Paris to increase its lead. Yet Aurier has to intervene in front of Hunou attempting to volley. Paris paces the game, Lucas again misses his header. Ben Arfa, very good tonight, lovely passes the ball to the “titi” Nkunku who misses the target unfortunately.
Rennes is drowning and the Roazhon Park is showing its discontentment while appreciating Paris’ fine plays. Rabiot gets the ball back, moves forward and passes to Ben Arfa pushing the ball to Draxler who comes closer to the centre and fires… Draaaaaaaaaaaaaxxx (0-3; 68th minute). What a game for the German player, totally at his ease again in Brittany – he scored about two weeks ago.
Coach Emery then decides to give some rest to Draxler and Motta ahead of a busy calendar for PSG, Matuidi and Pastore come in. High expectation as the Argentinian’s vista has been missing. Almost immediately, Pastore ignites a counter attack, to Matuidi then Maxwell crossing to Lucas but Rennes’ GK Costil is on the way. On the other side, Areola is still febrile.
Then the new Ronaldo, Guedes comes in for a last impulse. Yet, it’s Ben Arfa who is almost making the bill more salty for the Rennais but a bit unlucky at the 83rd minute. Then a lot of plays between Pastore, Guedes and Ben Arfa. Paris eventually concludes on a lovely action by Pastore sending a quick through ball from a far free-kick finding Ben Arfa who takes time to fire Costil (0-4; 90th minute).
PSG let’s go to the next round!
